2018 Chevrolet Traverse: Technology done right

The all new Chevrolet Traverse offers technology that is seamless and thoughtful

Technology is progressing at a rapid pace in the automotive industry, making modern cars safer and more connected than ever. The 2018 Traverse, Chevrolet’s all-new 8-passenger SUV, is a rolling showcase of these advancements in safety, connectivity and convenience.

When it comes to technology, the new Chevrolet Traverse is unlike any other offering in its segment. It is packed with features that not only provide protection in the event of a collision, but actively monitor the surroundings of the vehicle for potentially hazardous situations, keeping its occupants secure in all driving conditions. In fact, several on-board active safety features can sense an impending crash and intervene to prevent it if the driver fails to respond in time.

With as many as 14 available active safety features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Automatic Braking, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Vision Camera, Rear Park Assist, Surround Vision and Front Pedestrian Braking system, the Traverse is one of the most advanced vehicles in its class.

Also on offer is the innovative Rear Mirror Camera. This segment-exclusive rear-view mirror acts both as a conventional mirror and video display for a wide-angle, high-resolution camera. In camera mode, it provides a full view of the area behind the vehicle, without the obstruction of head restraints, rear-seat passengers or cargo.

Another available feature that enhances driver awareness and occupant safety is Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The system can detect an approaching vehicle during a reversing maneuver, and apply the brakes if the driver doesn’t respond to the warnings. Furthermore, the array of active safety technology is complemented by unwavering passive safety features such as 7 airbags, including Front Center Side-Impact Air Bag pioneered by the older generation Traverse.

The 2018 Traverse also offers a vast selection of connectivity features to minimize driver distraction. At the heart of the Traverse’s advanced connectivity is Chevrolet’s award-winning MyLink system, which is available with 7- and 8-inch-diagonal touch screens. The system mirrors the layout of a smartphone and supports Apple CarPlay. The inclusion of Siri Eyes-Free, meanwhile, allows the driver to control several vehicle functions using voice commands, without the need to take the eyes off the road or hands off the wheel.

Finally, a new Rear Seat Reminder feature is standard on all trims. It activates when the rear doors are opened or closed, up to 10 minutes before or, anytime the vehicle is on. The Traverse displays a reminder to double check the rear seats for valuables, once the vehicle is turned off under certain conditions.

While the abundance of technology can become intrusive in most vehicles with a multitude of beeps and warning lights, their application in the Traverse is seamless. The computers ensure progress is safe, smooth and convenient without becoming a distraction. Just the way you’d expect in a Chevrolet.
